Mark your calendars for June 10, 11 & 12 for the 10th Annual Smoke on the Plains Derby BBQ & Music Festival presented by Rock Regional Hospital. This fun and free event will be held at High Park, 2801 E. James St.
What’s different in 2021? We will not hold the following activities during the day Saturday due to the pandemic: People’s Choice Contest, Kids Corner and the military appreciation lunch. Instead, a military appreciation night, sponsored by Derby Orthodontics and Smile Safari, will be held at Rock River Rapids in June.
The carnival will return and be located in the parking lot of Field Station: Dinosaurs, 2999 N. Rock Rd. The WEEE Carnival will operate on June 10, 11 & 12.
“Bring your lawn chair and listen to music while trying something new from the food trucks on Friday or Saturday evening,” said Randy White, Mayor. “The evening Music Fest is the main attraction this year, or take the kids to the carnival at Field Station: Dinosaurs.”

Saturday, June 12During the day, we will hold the Evergy KCBS Cook-off and Fidelity Bank Backyard BBQ Cook-off with an awards ceremony at 3:30 p.m. on the Security 1st Title Mainstage. The carnival will run from Noon to 5 p.m. at Field Station: Dinosaurs.

Entry forms for the KCBS BBQ Cook-off can be found at DerbyBBQ.com. The Backyard Cook-off is full. Contest winners will receive cash prizes and ribbons.
Enter High Park using the James St. entrance. On-site parking will be available in the paved lots. ADA parking will be available; look for signage at the park.
Proceeds from this event benefit the McConnell Air Force Base Airman and Family Readiness Center. The City of Derby has donated $14,000 of proceeds from this event to the center over the last nine years.
