Kay and Water Reconstruction

Traffic Flow Map

Feb. 28 Update
Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) will close the Kay Street railroad crossing for work in the railroad’s right of way. The closure is expected to last up to four weeks. Two-way traffic will be allowed on Kay Street west of Buckner and on Water Street between Washington and Kay St. All other railroad crossings remain open.

Project Overview
The City of Derby is working with Pearson Construction to reconstruct Kay and Water Streets on the west side of Derby. The project will modernize the streets to an urban standard. This project is a result of the West End Development Plan, which will improve access, traffic flow, and increase reinvestment in the area.

Major construction activities started in October. A majority of the asphalt base and curb have been laid. Current work being done includes constructing driveway access, sidewalks and retaining walls. Work is expected to be completed by July 2020.

Periodic road closures may be necessary at some locations. Access to adjacent properties will be maintained.
