Church Security and Safety Awareness Training: Jan. 27

Derby Police Department

On Saturday, Jan. 27 from 8:30 to 11 a.m., the Derby Police Department and First Presbyterian Church in Derby will host their second Church Security and Safety Awareness training class at The Venue at Madison Avenue Central Park, 512 E. Madison Ave.

Derby police officers who have received special training in church security will present common-sense methods to enhance security. They will cover basic precautions and answer questions you may have.

“Our first training on Dec. 2 included 110 participants from Derby and the surrounding area,” said Robert Lee, Police Chief. “Our January class already has 40 people registered with space for more. This shows there is a clear need for this type of training.”

Derby’s community policing philosophy relies on police/community partnerships to address crime and quality-of-life issues. Traditionally, Derby churches have been outstanding community partners with the police department.

All churches, regardless of where they are located, are welcome to send representatives to this free training. Pastors, ushers and others involved in church security will find the session most useful. Limited seating is available. Please RSVP by Jan. 20 by emailing or calling 788-1557.
