Historic Landmarks Ribbon Cutting & Time Capsule Display

Wednesday, October 9, 2019

Join us for a ribbon cutting and tour of seven new historic landmarks.

On Wednesday, Oct. 9 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., the City will hold a ribbon cutting for new historic landmark signs at the Derby Historical Museum, 710 E. Market. There will be a narrated tour of the landmarks on the Derby Dash or you can drive yourself.

In 2017, the City of Derby began planning its 150th celebration to take place in 2019. One of the projects that came out of this planning process was the identification and establishment of seven historic landmarks in our community.

The landmarks include:

  • Arkansas River Crossing, Warren Riverview Park, 321 W. Market St.
  • El Paso Business District, Derby Police Department, 229 N. Baltimore
  • Smith Farm & St. Mary School, Madison Avenue Central Park, 512 E. Madison Ave.
  • Derby Public School & Museum, Derby Historical Museum, 710 E. Market
  • Lauber Farm & Silo, Brookwood & Redwood St. (east side of road)
  • El Paso Cemetery, 700 E. Kay St. (southeast corner near Woodlawn & Kay)
  • Garrett Homestead, Garrett Park, 1100 E. Chet Smith

A time capsule was also created and will be kept at the Historical Museum. It will be opened in 50 years.

If you can’t make it to this event, visit Derby150.com to see photos, descriptions and a walking and biking map of the landmarks. We encourage you to view the landmarks when convenient for you or attend this event.
