The Finance Department is responsible for duties crucial to efficient and effective delivery of local government services. While many of these functions take place behind the scene, they are fundamental to the smooth operation of other departments.
Megan Sneller serves as the Director of Finance, with responsibility for basic governmental functions, including record keeping of official City Council proceedings, certification of ordinances and resolutions, issuance of certain licenses and permits (e.g. cereal malt beverages), administration of official oaths for boards and commissions, and debt management.
The Accounting division coordinates payroll, accounts payable and receivable, water and sewer utility billing, monthly accounting, budget preparation, and purchasing activities. The city follows all Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP) in order to provide prudent management of public funds.
Other areas of this department include risk management, which is centralized in order to protect city assets against property liability and loss.
